Joy Powell

Inspired by the natural world and using traditional silversmithing skills, I design and create a variety of silver and gold jewellery and miniature pictures. Favourite techniques include a range of textures, using acid etching, reticulation, hammered finishes, casting and chain designs. I undertake commissions which are hallmarked at Birmingham Assay Office. I have learned my skills over a number of years by undertaking regular courses and workshops led by master silversmiths and jewellers based in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter. Combining many years of teaching experience, with my jewellery making skills, I am now able to offer workshops in my own fully equipped studio (max 4 students) or with my Workshop on Wheels at a venue of your choice (maximum 6). The latter is a focused workshop learning a specific skill, eg making decorative chains, etching or hammer/punch textures and using them to make a range of jewellery of your choice. In collaboration with a nearby, recently renovated B&B, residential courses are also now available in their purpose built studio. Please contact me for dates and more information.
