Susan J Adams

I studied Fine Art at Norwich School of Art and the Slade and later gained an MA in Electronic Arts at Middlesex University. My work is exhibited throughout the UK and internationally. I have held a number of prestigious Artist in Residency positions including those at Gloucester Cathedral, Millay Colony for the Arts New York, Welsh National Opera, Bardsey Island and Shaftesbury Abbey. I use a range of media including painting, printmaking, polychromed wood and video. The imagery explores the relationship between fantasy and lived experience and the locations in which these two worlds collide. I am interested in the uncanny, the half-alive. I suppose this has repeatedly drawn me to things like puppets, fetishes and automata because being in the presence of something borderline one is given a flicker of death, and the sense of being alive becomes suddenly nebulous.
