Originally from Litchfield in Staffordshire, I qualified as a teacher with a B.Ed. in Fine Art and Ceramic Sculpture at London University in 1971. While teaching, I attended courses with professional potters throughout the UK, in La Borne, France and Mashiko, Japan.
Since moving to mid-Wales in 1993, I have built a large wood-fired kiln, exploring how the flames and ash produce interesting textural effects on a wide range of stoneware clays and glazes. I make large sculptural jugs reminiscent of herons or the female form, as well as a full range of domestic ware.
Inspired by artists such as Matisse and Kandinsky, and the vibrant colours of rainbows and flowers, I use spontaneous swirls of brightly coloured slips and stains on high-fired earthenware pottery.
I have exhibited at the international ceramics festival in Aberstwyth, Ceramica Cymru, Llandeilo, Tredegar House, Newport and in local galleries in Llanidloes, Bishops Castle and Glansevern Gardens.
