I have been carving stone for 20 years and was originally influenced by the medieval sculptures that surrounded me in my work (I am a Cathedrals Archaeologist).

I am largely self-taught, with some training in a marble studio in Pietrasanta, Italy in 2012.

Sculptors that have influenced my work include the Romanian sculptor, Constantine Brancusi and Japanese sculptor Kan Yasuda. I particularly like the meditative quality of their work.

Much of my early work was totally hand-carved, but now that I am working on large pieces of marble and sandstone (up to 5 tons in weight) I use both electric and compressed air tools for the roughing out stage, but still enjoy the more meditative hand finishing and sanding stages.

Over the last few years I have concentrated on forms influenced by microscopic organisms, such as diatoms and pollens grains. I am current researching ideas for sculptures influenced by the cosmos, dark matter and quantum physics.
